Carl and I have decided that our New Years resolution for 2016 would be to undertake the arduous task of visiting local eating establishments in order for us to make informed recommendations to our guests. First port of call this year was to the Ship Inn, Axmouth, a 3-minute drive from Spillers.

When we arrived just after 7pm the place was heaving and obviously the place to be, get here early if you want a parking space. Great atmosphere and delicious food, can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday evening. The pork belly complete with a pot of apple sauce, super crunchy crackling, a large puddle of gravy and mashed potatoes plus a large selection of seasonal vegetables was cooked to perfection. The Rib-eye steak, again delicious and perfectly cooked was teamed with chunky chips, onion rings, mushrooms and peas and accompanied by a lovely glass of red wine.

We finished off our meal with sticky toffee pudding and ice cream and a lemon posset – all I must add for the benefit of our clientele. Enormous portions, friendly staff, very reasonably priced. A must when visiting Spillers – we will definitely visit again.
